Parian Bust of Lord Byron – Neoclassical Literary Figure

Overview A finely modeled Parian ware bust of Lord Byron, presented in the neoclassical manner with softly rendered features and naturalistic drapery. The matte white surface emulates marble, a hallmark of Parian porcelain, and lends the piece a scholarly, sculptural presence appropriate to its subject. Highlights • Modeled after the poet Lord Byron • Parian (bisque) porcelain with marble-like finish • Crisp facial detailing and expressive downward gaze • Classical pedestal base for display • Unmarked, typical of many mid-19th century Parian figures Why You Will Love It This is the kind of object that signals intellect rather than decoration alone. Byron is not casual subject matter - he represents Romanticism, rebellion, and literary prestige. The restrained white surface allows the modeling to carry the visual weight, making it equally suited to a study, library, or curated shelf where meaning matters. Dating / Background Parian ware was introduced in the 1840s by English porcelain factories including Copeland and Minton. Designed to imitate carved marble at a fraction of the cost, it became especially popular for busts of cultural and literary figures. Lord Byron (1788–1824), one of the central figures of the Romantic movement, was a frequent subject due to his enduring cultural influence and dramatic life. Busts such as this were produced throughout the mid-to-late 19th century and into the early 20th century. Condition Excellent overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. Minor surface speckling and light base wear consistent with age and material. Dimensions (inches) Height: 7 Width: 4 1/2 Depth: 2 1/2 Weight: 0.7 lbs Why Collect Parian busts occupy a unique space between fine sculpture and decorative object. They reflect a period when literary culture and classical aesthetics intersected in domestic interiors. Byron examples remain among the more desirable subjects due to his continued recognition and the strong sculptural qualities typically associated with his likeness.
