Antique Chinese Republic Famille Rose Porcelain Vase Pair — Birds & Peonies

Antique Chinese Republic Famille Rose Porcelain Vase Pair — Birds & Peonies

¤1,270.00

Overview Matched pair of hand-enameled porcelain vases in the famille-rose palette, richly painted with songbirds among peonies and prunus. Black grisaille borders to neck and shoulder, and Greek-key bands at the foot. Each with an iron-red CHINA export mark to the base and an apocryphal red seal mark. Highlights - Genuine antique export porcelain, sold as a matched pair - Lively bird-and-flower painting with excellent color retention - Decorative black-and-iron-red border work uncommon on later reproductions - Clean, tall form that displays well on mantels, consoles, or bookshelves Why you will love it These vases give you the classic Qing-inspired bird-and-flower subject in a bright, room-lifting palette, but with the crisp drawing and modern scale associated with early Republic workshops. As a true pair, they anchor a vignette instantly—and the CHINA mark confirms export-age authenticity. Dating / Background Republic-period style, c. 1915–40. The iron-red CHINA mark appears on export wares from the late 19th century into the 1920s and on some later stock. The red seal marks on the body and base are apocryphal—decorative emblems rather than literal reign attributions, a common practice on Republic export porcelain. Condition Excellent display condition with bright enamels and a clean glaze. Minor kiln specks and pinholes, a few tiny firing dots in the black borders, and light shelf wear to the foot rims. No chips, cracks, or restorations observed under normal inspection. Please review photos as they are part of the description. Dimensions Height (each): 13 7/8 in (35.2 cm) Approx. diameter: 5 1/2–6 in Mouth (outer diameter): ~4 1/4 in Foot (outer diameter): ~3 3/4–4 in Care Dust with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. Avoid abrasives and prolonged soaking. If needed, wipe gently with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not put in a dishwasher or use acidic cleaners on the enamels. Styling Display the pair bookending a mantle or console, or flank a mirror for symmetry. They also sit well on a window ledge with natural light catching the enamels. For flowers, use a narrow, removable liner to protect the interior and preserve the decoration.
